A Batavia townhome association hired us to replace the paired entry stairs on one of its buildings after the original steps had cracked through and the treads had started to settle unevenly. We poured two new 10-step stairways side by side, keeping every riser the same height so residents don’t catch a toe on an uneven step, and set the footings below the frost line so the long runs won’t shift. Black metal handrails were re-anchored on both sides of each stair, and the broom finish gives solid footing in snow. We worked one stairway at a time so both units always had a way in and out.

This brick two-story had a front walk that had settled into uneven sections, leaving lips at the joints that the homeowners kept tripping over. We removed it and poured a new curved walkway that follows the edge of the planting beds from the driveway to the front porch, about 60 feet long and wide enough for two people to walk side by side. The edges are tooled smooth and the panels are jointed every 5 feet so any future cracking stays in the joints. It’s a simple broom finish, but the curve makes the whole front of the house look more finished.

These homeowners were adding a glass-roof pergola off the back of their house and needed a slab that could carry it. We poured about 420 square feet of broom-finish concrete with thickened pads under each post location so the structure won’t settle or crack the slab, and saw-cut control joints to keep the surface clean. The slab is pitched away from the house so rain that drips off the roof edge runs into the yard. Now they have a shaded outdoor room that looks straight out into their wooded backyard.
